A little bit about me...for all the new followers!

My name is Desiree, I am 25 years old, and I'm from Miami, FL born and raised! I am a first generation American, created by 2 Cuban parents that lived a block away from each other in Havana but didn't meet until they both arrived in this country. I am the oldest of 3 kids, with both a younger sister and a younger brother.

I have been married to my best friend for 3 years, though we have been together for almost 6. His name is Kenny and he is awesome LOL He's also remarkably shy about being in photos and on the internet, so you will very rarely see him on here.

We have a pug named Pig and a cat named Brady, and we take better care of them than we do of ourselves sometimes :) We love reptiles, and have had quite a few throughout our relationship, but we currently have none.

I make my living in insurance sales, as I co-own an insurance agency with my father. I am also a freelance fashion photographer, my company is called Beautiful Garbage Photography, Inc. and I mostly do work that I sell to benefit charitable organizations. I am also a graduate student, currently getting my Masters in Psychology, with a specialization in Addictions Counseling.

I love: animals, photography, fashion, online shopping, the interwebs, my DVR, owls, my iPhone, dancing, tequila, obscure music, reading blogs, tolerance, intelligent conversation, coffee, dresses, mustaches, makeover shows, bad TV in general, reading memoirs/biographies, talking, writing blog posts (list to be expanded, I'm sure)

I very strongly dislike: people who hate dogs, going to malls with people that invite me hoping I'll just fawn over everything they try on, rum (bad Cuban, bad!), people "discovering" bands I love and turning them into mainstream garbage, cap sleeves, intolerance, ignorance, people that allow themselves to be victimized, douchebags that victimize said people, writing school papers (I'm sure this list shall grow as well LOL)

Random tidbits about me:
* I am a Libra, and I firmly believe the coolest people on earth are as well LOL
* I have been cutting my own hair for the past 2 years, and I've yet to screw it up (notice I said "yet"!)
* I have 3 tattoos and I currently have 8 piercings, though at the peak of my body mod-ing, I had 12
* I am the kind of person that will cry watching commercials (true story!), but I'm also the kind of person that will punch someone first and ask questions later (also true story, unfortunately. I need to work on my aggression, though I have gotten MUCH better since I graduated college)
* The paternal side of my family is small, quiet and very well-to-do, and we were brought up with impeccable manners and etiquette due to this. The maternal side of family is HUGE, lots of people, lots of personality, and we're all a little chusma (the latin version of "country" or "ghetto", if you will LOL) so I can be really LOUD and boisterous! The great thing about my upbringing is I can be classy AND trashy, and I know when each is appropriate ;)
* I am OBSESSED with (and collect) Piggy Banks!
* I believe EVERY WOMAN is beautiful. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

30 for 30 - 18/30

obviously, I'm the one on the left...the one on the right is my aunt :)
The Usual Suspects:

* Beth Ditto Floral Drape Dress
* Black Heels (though they came off basically immediately)

The Accomplices:

* A Multi-chain Silver Necklace, $12, Torrid (I believe...)
* Corset belt, about $30, Torrid

So, yeah. Here is the OOTD that I promised whenever someone posted photos of the party I wore the outfit too. I'm having TOO MUCH FUN in most of the pictures LOL So here's a couple just so you can see the outfit...above is the side view...

And here is an obstructed view of the front. The thought in my drunkass mind was "when they develop this, they're going to crack up!"...it didn't occur to me that it was digital! LOL That's a drunk photographer's thought process for you!

So yeah. Hopefully you can appreciate how cute the outfit was in these less than stellar pics, and you can appreciate that I'm a happy drunk ;)

off topic, but isn't this ADORABLE?!

IT'S LIKE THE ARTIST WAS LOOKING THROUGH ONE OF OUR WINDOWS!

I loved this!!!! It reminds me of my cat Brady, and our dog, Pig. I define them in those terms because my husband insists so LOL I had Brady since before I met him (Brady is 8 years old) and we got Pig (who is 3) together, so he likes to say that Brady is his stepson. He upsets me greatly when he starts talking like that, but it is what it is, right? ;)

For good measure, I'd like to introduce you to both Brady and Pig, and apologize in advance for the lack of make-up in both these photos :)

Pig claiming me for Pigdom...he has a talent for finding all your soft spots/organs with his very heavy little paws

And here's Brady with me...he fancies himself half parrot or something, because he loves hanging out on peoples shoulders, even when they're standing!

Unrelated: Calendar for a Good Cause!

As I have mentioned before, I am a freelance photographer, and I've been doing this for almost 3 years...

Every year, I put together a calendar that I sell to benefit a charity (non-profit, as in I charge what the printer charges me and enough for a $5-$10 donation to the cause)...The 2009 and 2010 calendars were sold to benefit Multiple Sclerosis, but this year I have decided to donate the proceeds to the ALS Foundation.

The 2009 calendar was horoscope inspired, and the 2010 calendar was themed "Swimsuits with a Twist", basically editorial-type photos of bikini-clad models in weird or unexpected locations. This year, I'm thinking of making a calendar featuring a series of tattoo portraits I've been working on...you can see some of them here.

So, I just wanted to let you guys know what I'm working on, because like I mentioned, it's non-profit, I donate my time and so do the people featured in the photographs so that we can help make a difference for a good cause. If anyone might be interested in a calendar (which will probably sell for $25), please comment or email me (frugalistafatshionista@yahoo.com) so I can gauge interest and know how many to order!

Thanks for letting me bend your ear a little bit, so to speak ;)

Back to the sales! :)

:EDIT: Side-note, to keep it somewhat fashion related: I made all the dresses featured in the 2009 Horoscope calendar...and by made, I mean I pinned them onto the models about 15 minutes before each shoot :)

SLACKING!

I'm in one of those swings in life where I'm pretty much behind on everything (including my homework, 5 photoshoots over the weekend that I've yet to edit/proof, and I won't even TALK about the giant pile of clean laundry to be put away)....But this will be the week I get it all done and get back in the swing of things!!!

Mark my words: I shall post every day this week as is custom, and I shall post at least 2 OOTDs, along with LOTS of reviews on clothes I've purchased and received in the past week that I haven't gotten a chance to write about.

Thanks for being patient!

My first blog award!

Thanks to Lindsey from Lindsey The Vampire Slayer, a KICKASS nail art blog, I got my first blog award!

The Rules: Tell us 7 things about you then tag 12 other blogs for this award.

1)I have a pug and a cat, and they are my world!

2) I only very recently started to care about fashion and putting myself together nicely, though I've ALWAYS loved shopping and have been a fashion photographer for almost 3 years (go figure!)

3) I currently own an insurance agency and work there 30 hours a week, but I also own my freelance photography business, called Beautiful Garbage Photography, Inc. On top of THAT, I'm a graduate student getting my Masters in Psychology (hopefully) this time next year.

4) I've been married to my best friend for almost 3 years (Our anniversary is right around the corner, actually) and I couldn't be happier!

5) I have tons of high end make-up, but I hardly ever wear any (as in, maybe once a month, I'll get dolled up, though I own hundreds of dollars worth of MAC, Clinique, etc.)

6) I'm the kind of person that needs to be constantly busy and running around, but when I do have a minute to chill, I straight VEGETATE. Like, don't talk to me, I'm just going to lay here for a while and do NOTHING.

7) I love to read, but I hate fiction. I love biographies, memoirs and psychology texts (nerd alert! LOL I embrace my nerddom! Fiction nowadays sucks!)

Ok, now to tag people...

I'm back!

I'm back from my little hiatus from my birthday yesterday...I'm spending today catching up on homework that I didn't do over the weekend, and I have to go back to work tomorrow, so I'll post some sales to tide you guys over until tomorrow, when I can start posting reviews of some recent purchases, some news in the plus size fashion world, and of course, more sales!

And to all the new followers, thanks for stopping by, and please make me aware of any topics you'd like me to cover in the blog...I'm not a fashion expert, nor do I claim to be, but I am figuring this whole thing out day by day, and I'd love to share my experiences thus far with you.

Thanks again, and if you like what you see here, tell your friends!

Intro...kind of.

I say kind of because knowing myself like I do, I'll probably forget something important and have to do an Intro Part Deux or something...

I imposed a 3 month shopping ban on myself over a month ago because I tend to be very impulsive when it comes to clothes I love, and therefore feel I MUST have. As a big girl (and I always have been, I don't remember the last time I wore a size 13), I go through several emotions when I see something I love...what if I wait and it sells out? What if when I come back for it, it's not available in my size? I am SO going to regret not having that in my closet! etc. etc.

As a bigger girl, it's not as easy as walking into a store hours before an event and coming out with 2 or 3 outfits that I love. The fact, however, that so few clothes out there in plus sizes make the cut (so to speak) forces me to be a planner, but also to be creative. Why wear something off the rack when I can cut a seam, add some safety pins or some fabric paint, and have a one-of-a-kind outfit? (My mother used to HATE that I would do that, btw, because in her eyes I was ruining perfectly good clothes, until she'd see the finished product and realize how much cooler it looked)

I have the luck that though I have always been larger than my friends, I have always had good proportions (the kind that I've been told would make me a BOMBSHELL if I lost weight, but I digress) so I have always had great luck with buying clothes online, which is perfect because that's where most plus size clothes are available (even Old Navy, which is where I got practically ALL my clothes for a long while, doesn't have plus size clothes in store, only online). I've never had to have any item of clothing taken in or let out because the clothes are basically cut for a person like me, assuming of course I buy the proper size.

Well, in the past week or so, I've discovered SO MANY sources online for plus-size fashion...bloggers, shops (most of them in the UK, mind you)...I've just been so inspired! I want to have some part in ALL of it, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how I can contribute...I lack the funds that most of these women seem to have ($230 on ONE casual dress? I'm sorry, I just can't. That's almost a week's pay in my current part time situation), and my current wardrobe is mostly business casual stuff that I don't dare alter too much because I have to have variety in what I wear to work, and slicing up my dresses and cardigans will limit my choices. Should I start a blog about creating the perfect big girl wardrobe from scratch on a budget then?

YES.

It might be a slow start at first, because like I said previously, I am smack in the middle of a self-imposed shopping ban, but that doesn't mean I can't comment on the current state of plus size fashion, or that I can't make wish lists for my triumphant return to shopping, etc.

So here I am, your friendly neighborhood Frugalista Fatshionista. Rawr.
